NACC Story

Background

In April 2011, Tara King graduated from the University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Education in Visual Arts and History, excited to enter the world of teaching and inspiring young artists. Two months later, she gave birth to her greatest masterpiece, her daughter. Balancing a career and motherhood became a challange, but she was determined to persue her dream of teaching and continue to be involved within the art community.

It was in this same year, that Tara King Photography developed. With Tara's background in photography, it was a natural progression in her growth as an artist (and bonus, she got to document her daughter's milestones). As business progressed throughout the years (and storage decreased in our home), Tara knew that a public studio space would be essential for her continued growth.

NACC Was Born

In April 2015, Tara and her husband, Tyler bought "The Old Pop Shoppe" (a local reference) on Stover Street in Norwich.

With a love of all things historical,  it was imparitive to save as much original structure and interior design as possible. When all the layers of renovations were removed,  we discovered a very badly damaged 19th Century original tin ceiling, complete with 12" tin crown moulding! Tyler salvaged as much of the ceiling as was humanly possible, dealing with can-opener shaped holes cut in the tin every 2-3 feet. With a fresh coat of paint, the end result is simply stunning.

After 6 gruling months of lates nights, spent weekends, surprise discoveries, painters, brick layers and candle stick makers (just kidding about the candle stick makers), Norwich Arts & Culture Centre is ready for her unveiling.

What is NACC?

NACC is located in the downtown core of Norwich, Ontario.  The building is one of the town's first buildings, built around the 1900s. It's has known many uses over the course of it's establishment; it initially served as a bakery, and an conenience store known as "The Pop Shoppe" mid-century. It has retained some of it's original architectural details, such as the punched-tin ceiling and exposed brick walls.

The Centre was created to be used as a cultural and community hub for Norwich and the surrounding area. We hope to become home to some of Oxford Counties finest entrepreneures and community gatherings. We will strive to help our community of tenants achieve success, and feel comfortable and at home in our space.

Getting to Know Your DSLR

DATE: TBA

Attention Moms: This is a great class for you!

Firstly: Put a Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) Camera on your Christmas wish list now!

Next: Put this class on your Valentine's Day wish list!

After you open your DSLR and remove it from the box, you are intimidated by the number of buttons and dials, and by the thickness of the manual, it can be very tempting to put the manual down, flick it onto ‘Auto’ and start shooting.  Whilst that is fine for some, it may not be long until you crave the creative control that inspired you to have a DSLR in the first place, but where do you begin?

Join us for a 1 hour a week, 8-week long class that will set you up shooting manual mode with your Nikon or Canon camera. Learn how your camera functions inside and out, and take better photos!

Requirements: DSLR Camera, Memory Card, Manual

Available Spaces: 10

Cost: $199
